“The Time is Always Right to Do What is Right”
I was at a WAWA yesterday getting gas when a guy in a BMW pulled in sideways and took up two handicap parking spots right in front of the store. Anyone who knows me understands how much this kind of behavior irritates me. I mean, WAWA is a Philadelphia institution—fast, efficient, and packed with regulars who expect a little common courtesy. And this guy? He clearly thought the rules didn’t apply to him.
I parked my car, got out, and did what anyone would do—I checked for handicap plates or hang tags. Nothing. Not even a sticker. My plan was simple: wait for him to leave the store and confront him politely, maybe even give him a little reality check.
As he came out of the store, I called out, “Excuse me!” He turned just in time… and promptly walked right into the metal handicap sign. The impact nearly knocked him off balance, and in the chaos, he dropped the coffee he had just bought. I’m not talking a small spill—this was a full-on, everywhere-on-him, dark roast, WAWA-style disaster.
Bent over, soaked in coffee and muttering under his breath, he looked up at me and grumbled, “What?!”
I just shook my head, smiled a little, and said, “Never mind.” Then I returned to my car, trying not to laugh too hard. Sometimes, it seems like fate has its own way of dealing with people—and you really don’t have to lift a finger.
I couldn’t help thinking as I drove off: this is why I love WAWA. You never know what you’re going to see. Between the line for the hoagies, the regulars arguing about coffee blends, and occasional moments like this, it’s always an adventure. And yesterday? Let’s just say karma had a cup of coffee ready for this guy.
