Your life without a computer: what does it look like?

You know, I really had to stop and think about this one—my life without a computer. Honestly, it feels almost impossible to imagine. I just got back from my trip down the New Jersey shore, and even on vacation, I realized how much I lean on that little machine for everything. It’s not just a tool—it’s my library, my workshop, my gallery, my office, my auction house, and yes, sometimes even my companion.

Without it, my mornings would look very different. No quick scroll through the news, no checking emails, no watching what’s going on with eBay listings or auction results while sipping my coffee. Researching art, antiques, and collectibles would go back to the old-school way: books, catalogs, calling dealers, driving to libraries or galleries. It would be slower, more methodical, and honestly, a little more exciting in its unpredictability. There’s something satisfying about flipping pages in a heavy reference book instead of relying on an algorithm to tell me the artist of a painting.

And the writing? My blog would probably live in notebooks scattered all over the house. No instant sharing, no quick edits, no neat, organized drafts. And let’s be real—there would be a lot of spelling mistakes, grammar errors, and missing words thanks to my dyslexia and ADHD. I’d stumble, backtrack, maybe tear out a page or two, but somehow, that would make it feel even more personal. More me.

On the upside, life without a computer would force a slower pace. I’d notice things more: the morning sun hitting a painting, the sound of a boat slicing through the water off the shore, the quiet hum of the house. Fewer distractions, fewer interruptions, more time to focus on what really matters—family, health, experiences, and those small moments that don’t need a screen to be meaningful.

But I can’t kid myself. I love what my computer lets me do. It’s a window to the past, a key to the present, and a door to possibilities I never could have imagined. Without it, life would be quieter, calmer, maybe healthier in some ways—but I’d miss the connections, the knowledge, and the ability to keep my thoughts and my world organized.

A life without a computer is possible. Even healthy. But for me? It would be like a boat without sails. Sure, it floats, but it’s missing the wind that moves it forward. And honestly, I’d rather have that wind.
