Just When I Thought the Prompts Couldn’t Get Any Worse

Daily writing prompt
What are your favorite websites?

Just when I thought the daily prompt couldn’t get any more uninspiring, I read today’s: “What are your favorite websites?”

Really? Are you Kidding? That’s the creative spark we’re being offered on this fine day? It’s like asking a painter what his favorite brand of beige is. I can almost hear the digital yawn echoing across WordPress. But not to worry, I will answer this question at the end of my blog here.

And to make matters worse, I now have to scroll through hundreds of “responses” that have nothing to do with the actual question. Poets writing about heartbreak, memoirists telling their life story for the 47th time, and someone inevitably promoting their “award-winning” banana bread recipe. And before heading to Mass today, I stumbled across yet another “religious reflection” post tagged to a completely unrelated daily prompt question, God bless you — proof that some folks think every question is a chance to preach, no matter what it asks. It’s as if the prompt section has become the Times Square of blogging—bright, loud, and full of people trying to hand you flyers.

Here’s a wild idea: let’s all agree to block the bloggers who hijack the prompt feed. If your post doesn’t answer the question, out you go. One strike, you’re done. Maybe we can finally scroll in peace without bumping into a “My Journey With Matcha” essay under a prompt titled Describe Your Favorite Smell.

And while we’re at it—let’s find out who at WordPress HQ keeps coming up with these prompts and send them a strongly worded email. Or, if it’s an AI doing it (and let’s be honest, it probably is), maybe it’s time to reprogram it. Give it a personality. A sense of humor. Or at least a pulse.

Because right now, it feels like the creative department outsourced inspiration to a toaster.

Anyway, back to the original question—my favorite websites? I’ll give you one: WordPress.com, because without it, I wouldn’t have a place to complain about how bad the prompts are. My second favorite is of corse beebops.blog one that I hope you all subscribe to.
