People love to dream about palm trees, mountain cabins, Tuscan villas, or beachfront cottages where the water is so clear you can see the fish swim by. And honestly, I enjoy looking at those photos as much as anyone. But if you asked me, If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? my answer is simple and immediate:
I’d stay exactly where I am.
And here’s the truth—I’ve always believed you should try to make your home feel like a vacation home when you’re young, so you never grow up aching to escape it. Create a place you love, a place you’re excited to come back to at the end of the day, and you’ll never spend your life daydreaming about living somewhere else. That’s exactly what I did, without even realizing it. Over the years I shaped my home into a place that feels peaceful, comfortable, welcoming… the kind of place I never needed a break from.
I’m at a point in life where I understand what truly matters to me—and it isn’t exotic scenery or luxury views. I already have stable weather, calm days, familiar roads, and most importantly, I have my daughters and my seven grandchildren all within arm’s reach. That alone makes this the best place on Earth for me.
I don’t need to search for paradise when I can hear it in the laughter of my grandkids running around my house. I don’t need a mansion on the coast when I can sit on my own porch and watch the seasons shift exactly the way they’ve shifted for decades. I don’t need a new zip code to feel alive. I’ve built my life here—raised my family here—loved and lived more memories in this region than I could ever count.
People often think happiness is “out there somewhere,” waiting at the end of a plane ride. Maybe when I was young I bought into that idea too. But at this stage of life, the greatest luxury is having the people I love just minutes away. I can fish with my grandkids at a moment’s notice. I can drop by my daughters’ homes without planning a vacation around it. My roots are here. My history is here. My heart is here.
So if I could live anywhere in the world?
I’d choose right here—every single time.
