The most important work I’ve been doing lately doesn’t involve books, properties, or even my health routine—it’s being a grandfather. I have seven grandchildren, and each of them is a world of their own. One of my greatest joys is spending time with them, creating memories that will last long after I’m gone. Whether it’s praising them for their accomplishments, fishing together, or sneaking in one of those “teaching moments” only a grandfather can deliver, I see it as my responsibility to help build their character and give them a better sense of the world we live in.
Of course, life doesn’t stop there. I juggle plenty of other projects. As a landlord, I’m always working on properties, making sure tenants are taken care of and repairs are handled before they grow into bigger issues. It’s not glamorous work, but I take pride in knowing I’m responsible and steady for the people who call those places home.
I’m also a bit obsessed with health. I track supplements, stay consistent with my fasting, and keep up with exercise. To me, health isn’t optional—it’s the foundation that allows me to enjoy everything else: time with family, writing, and even tackling the clutter of daily life.
And then there’s the creative side. I’ve been writing my sci-fi novel, The Watchers of Time, while also building a memoir for my grandchildren. The novel stretches my imagination, but the memoir grounds me—it’s my way of passing along stories, lessons, and wisdom. One day, when my grandchildren read it, they’ll see not just who I was, but why I made the choices I did.
Now, here’s where it gets tricky. I have ADHD tendencies, which means I live with a constant tug-of-war between productivity and distraction. I make messes, leave drawers open, forget to put lids back on containers. But don’t mistake that for laziness. In fact, I hate clutter. I thrive when things are clean and organized—it makes me feel sharper, calmer, more in control. So part of my daily “work” is building better habits to bridge that gap: to start and finish strong, to tidy as I go, and to leave a cleaner trail behind me.
So, what have I been working on? The truth is, a little bit of everything—properties, health, writing, and self-improvement. But at the center of it all is being a grandfather. That’s the one job that matters more than all the rest, because it’s not just about what I accomplish in my lifetime—it’s about what I leave in theirs.
