I Love Summertime

I’ve realized something about myself… I don’t just dislike winter—I take it personally. I really hate it.
All winter long I’m walking around like just dropped my favorite antique vase, bundled up just to take the trash out, staring at a sky that hasn’t seen the color blue since October, wondering how this became normal.
Then that first real warm day hits.
You know the one—windows open, birds going nuts, neighbors suddenly reappearing like they’ve been in witness protection… and there I am, soaking it in like I just got released back into society.
And then… here it comes.
A little sadness. A little worry.
Because I know the truth.
Summer doesn’t arrive—it starts a fast countdown.
I’m not even fully into it yet and already I’m thinking, “June 21st… that’s it… that’s the peak.”
The longest day of the year… and from that exact moment… it starts slipping away days start getting shorter again. What;s with that?
Then we turn the clocks back and lose even more daylight—never made much sense to me.
I mean seriously… we wait ALL year for nice weather… and right when it gets perfect, the days start getting shorter!
Why couldn’t God just give us until August before pulling the plug a little?
Just let us enjoy it for a minute!
But no… you finally get into a rhythm—grilling, sitting outside at night, not needing three layers to function—and boom… someone casually says, “Yeah, it’s getting darker earlier,” and your whole mood shifts.
Next thing you know, back-to-school commercials are on, those dam leaves start falling again, pumpkin spice is lurking around the corner, and winter is stretching in the bullpen warming up again for another long dark cold gray snowy period.
Summer comes and goes faster every year, and you start to notice it more when you are my age.
So now I live in this weird place where I’m loving every minute of the warm weather… while already being slightly annoyed about February. Am I crazy or what?
Anyway… I’ll be outside enjoying every second like I’m trying to beat the clock.
