There was a time when I cared far too much about what other people thought of me.
I think a lot of that came from spending years working for someone else. Your reputation, performance reviews, promotions—even keeping your job—can make you second-guess yourself and worry about pleasing everyone.
That changed when I stopped working for someone else.
I realized I no longer needed everyone’s approval. I only needed to be true to my values, treat people with respect, and be able to look at myself in the mirror at the end of the day.
The funny thing is, once you stop living for other people’s opinions, you become a much happier and more genuine person.
People will always have opinions.
You get to decide how much of your life they’re allowed to control.
