Not being Productive

Daily writing prompt
What bores you?

I’ve noticed over the years that certain things bore me more than others, and most of them have one thing in common — they feel like a waste. A waste of time, a waste of money, or a waste of thought.

Wasting money is one of the quickest ways to lose my interest. Spending just to spend has never made sense to me. Buying things with no real value or purpose just feels empty. I’ve always believed money should accomplish something — build something, improve your life, or last long enough to matter. Watching people throw it away on junk or short-lived trends is about as dull as it gets.

Dumb television shows fall into the same category. Shows that seem designed just to fill airtime with noise instead of substance don’t hold my attention for long. I like learning something or at least seeing something real. If I turn the TV off and feel like I gained nothing, it feels like wasted time.

Late-night talk shows like Jimmy Kimmel never did much for me either. The same jokes, the same celebrity chatter, and the same routines night after night just feel predictable. After a few minutes I usually find myself thinking there has to be something better I could be doing.

I also get bored by repetition without progress. Doing the same thing over and over with nothing new to learn or improve just doesn’t hold my attention. I like to see movement — a project getting finished, a problem getting solved, or an idea getting developed.

Shallow conversations bore me too. I enjoy talking with people who think about things and have some experience behind their opinions. Surface-level talk that goes nowhere leaves me restless pretty quickly.

Waiting around with nothing happening is another thing I’ve never been good at. I like momentum. If something isn’t moving forward, I start looking for something productive to do instead.

I’ve never been very good at sitting still with nothing meaningful going on. I’d rather be researching an antique, writing something, fixing something, or learning something new. Even relaxing feels better when there’s at least some purpose behind it.

Maybe that’s just the way I’m wired, but I’ve always felt that time is too valuable to spend on things that don’t give something back. If something doesn’t teach me, build something, or make me think, I usually lose interest pretty fast.
