Are You Approaching 70? Sarcopenia May Be Sneaking Up on You

Sarcopenia—the gradual loss of muscle mass and strength—can creep up on you without your realizing it. You may not notice until climbing stairs, getting out of a chair, or maintaining your balance becomes harder.

Try this simple check: Stand upright near something sturdy for support. Slowly raise and lower one knee repeatedly. If your leg quickly begins to shake or fatigue, it may be a sign that your muscles need more attention. It doesn’t prove you have sarcopenia, but don’t ignore it.

The good news is that it’s rarely too late to improve. Regular leg exercises, adequate protein, consistent activity, and possibly a daily creatine supplement can make a remarkable difference—even in your late 60s, 70s, and beyond. Check with your doctor before starting a new supplement, especially if you have kidney disease or take prescription medications.
